Bill Introduced by Rep. Rick Shaffer on January 22, 2007, to move the opening day for deer hunting season to the second Saturday in November. Referred to the House Tourism, Outdoor Recreation, And Natural Resources Committee on January 22, 2007.
So what do you folks think? Good idea? Bad Idea? I can see both sides here, as working guys can now get the opener off from work and wouldnt have to yank kids out of school to take them hunting. On the other hand, the timing does not co-inside well with bilogical cycles, and many already believe that our derr opener is too early as it is.
Sound off fellas!

The only creatures I hunt have dorsal fins.

I'm 110% against changing the opening day of the hunting season. I guarantee if they do there will be more hunting related deaths. There are too many sh!t for brains weekend hunters out there that drive up the might before then get up late the next morning & trounce through the woods screwing it up for everyone else.
This past season was my 1st season hunting on public land in 5 years. Opening morning I had a buck chasing a doe all around me just before legal time. This a-hole comes along crashing through the woods & almost tripped over my portable blind. Douche bags like that need to be shot.

You are going to slob hunters no matter when the season opens. The same goes for practically every other similar type of sports including boating and fishing. How many times have you been out on a boat in the middle of the lake enjoying the moment and some guy comes from way across the way on the latest, fastest, noisiest boat and passes you within 75-125 yards? Switching the opener may be the answer and give hunters three weekends to get out and do their thing. It is difficult to make two weekends in a row the way the screwy season dates are now. Two out of three gives a bit more opportunity to get away.

Hell I've had a-holes drive between me & the 40 yards from shore in a Ski boat pulling a skier out on Pine Lake. They didn't like it when I cast my Zara spook at their windshield. I was aiming for the drivers head.
If hunter want more weekends of deer hunting then they should take up bow-hunting. That will give you 3 months, plus less people in the woods to screw up your hunting.

Greg, Firearms season in Michigan (for deer) opens on the 15th of November. This cahnging date is a source of inconvenience to hunters as they often cannot get away in the middle of the week. Changing it to a weekend would be more convenient to some and perhaps inconvenient to others because of the possible increase in hunter numbers for the opener. Archery starts on Oct 1 and goes til 11/14 and then opens again after firearms closes on the last day of November. Ther is a muzzle loading season sometime after that.

Thanks Sir. I use to hunt 30 years ago. I think Michigans a big state and there's plenty of room for twice as many hunters as we have. But thats me.

They put this same issue up for a vote before & it was voted down by a large margin. Keep in mind that the DNR is controlled by the privileged few & they want to keep the season as it stands.
