Leaving tommorow morning for a 2 night 3 day fishing trip out of Gloucester mass. We`ll be out about 100 miles in the Atlantic ocean. Went last year and had a blast and I still have fish in the freezer from then. I`ll give a report with pics when I return. Yaaaahhhooooooooo.

Returned safely from a whale of a trip. Literally, whales were abundent. We spotted about 30 of them with a dozen of them being humpbacks. Some were within 20 yards of the ship. The fishing was spectacular with the mates having to clean 980 fish for the 40 customers on board. Pollack were the mainstay with haddock, cod, cusk and a couple monkfish coming aboard as well, There were alot of doubles caught on one rig and at one time myself, my friend and two other gents had 2 on at the same time. Needless to say the mates were busy gaffing the catches .What a frightning looking fish the monk fish are indeed as the pics will show. Scores of undesireable dog sharks were caught too and as they became more abundant the capitan would pull achor and motor to another spot. The biggest fish of the trip by all was a 65 lb cod. My biggest was a 20 lb cod. I had a 10 foot blue shark on for 5 minutes or so but lost my $20 jig to a bite off. At night the squid would come to the lights of the ship and the blue sharks would be right behind. The night capitan, (Nichole) would tell us to reel your caught fish in quickly otherwise the sharks would get them first and indeed it happenend several times. What a blast we had and it`s gonna take a couple days to recover from the fishing and the 15 hour drive back.

Here`s a pic of the jig we were using, (16 oz) along with a teaser hook about 2 feet above it. The teaser was tied on to the mainline dropshot style. At times we would get the fish on both the jig and teaser. Double your pleasure.

Looks like it would be a fun trip & pretty cheap too. I wouldn't be able to sleep in those bunks though.

It's funny how the ocean can look so similar to lake st clair Andy, the cost of my trip was $340 and was worth every penny. The charge for equiptment rental is $15 for the 2 days and $1 for the burlap bags you use to put your fish in on the deck. When the bag is filled or the heat will spoil your catch they put them in the on board ice chests. We had so many fish that the ice chests were filled. They piled the bags on deck and covered them in ice. Going next year too.
