Try and concentrate when you thumb lip a bass to get beyond there bottom jaw and place your thumb on the soft tissue just beyond it. Get a good grip and squeeze hard to avoid the slipping of your thumb if it shakes. This will keep your thumb from getting chewed up. Just think about this and your thumb will last alot longer. I do this and very rarely do I ever have a thumb that looks like a torn up piece of well thumb. lol
Hold the bass vertical with a thumb that's bent and the tiny teeth on the lower jaw won't tear your thumb up. Just say to yourself I'm going to let it have it and pinch hard.
h2o<--says hope this helps the beat up thumb.

I don't know if I have soft skin, or what, but that doesn't work for me. They still tear me up.

Most fishermen sit at home in the winter, thinking about fishing. Real fishermen go out and do it.

You have a small thumb or your not doing it right. I will show you when we get out. It works. You have to form a hook with your thumb.
