Ontario Fishing Hunting & Recreation

Hello everyone and welcome to the new and improved

 Greatlakes forum!

Our goal here at the Glf is to provide the necessary tools and information to help you, the outdoorsman, to improve upon you skills. From hunting to fishing, we are all privelaged to reside on the largest freshwater lake and river system in the world. Our skills and techniques are constantly being adjusted or improved upon, to help us to become more sucessful at targeting the species of fish or game that we target.   First I'll start with a little of my personal background. I've lived in Windsor, Ontario, Canada for my entire life. 30 years to be exact. As a young boy my Grandparent's on my mother and father's side both had beautiful waterfront homes on Lk. St. Clair. My Grandfather's were both avid anglers and my passion for the sport began as soon as I was old enough to hold a fishing pole. I could never forget all the trips to the middle of the lake trolling for walleye and learning from the master. To any of you who were lucky enough to have fished with your Grandfather's, you know how pricless these times are. My other Grandfather has lived right at the upper mouth of the Detroit River for 45 years. With access to his 12 ft. aluminum boat at the age of nine, I was hooked from the get go. Watching other people jig the mouth of the river in the spring for spawning walleye was something I loved to do. They made it look so easy! When I was finally old enough to get out there and try for myself, I quickly realized that there was quite a bit of "know how" involved. It was an extended learning curve which I will get into more detail later in a specific walleye article.  Not only do we have access to one of the best walleye fisheries in the world on the Detroit River, Lk. St. Clair, and Lk. Erie, but yellow lake perch, various species of bass, muskie, northern pike, and countless other species have been flourishing here for all of time. It is the goal of this website, and myself to help all who wish to enjoy our great fishery.  In the future I plan on sharing any helpful information that I can so that all can learn to put more fish in the boat. Different methods to target different species. Locations, tackle choices, techniques, and personal experience. I hope all will enjoy, and be able to use the information that I provide. I don't claim to be a master angler. But I know my river and lake. So to all of you I say...Tight lines!

Ontario provides a huge variety of lakes

and locations to fish.

Always be familiar with the regulations regarding the area you

plan to fish. These regulations are in place to protect the future of

our fishery.  Your children will thank you one day!

Ontario Anglers should continue to follow the 2005-2006 Fishing Regulations until the 2007-2008 Ontario Recreational Fishing Regulations are released. Click on the link below to view.
