What electronics do you have?
« on: June 15, 2006, 10:01:40 pm »

My electronics are pretty simple.
*Depthsounder/fishfinder....Hummingbird Matrex 37
*GPS.......handhelded Garmin GPSMAP76
          Have it mounted in boat.
*Have a ship to shore radio
*Loran Unit..... but its not in the photo
*Cellphone...always take it in the boat

For the off season I have a portable heater I got a Westmarine to keep the mold and mildew from growing. Its a must in the Pacific Northwest.
What goodies do you have in your boat.

Most fishermen sit at home in the winter, thinking about fishing.  Real fishermen go out and do it.

Czar is better equiped that the shark hunters in the Jaws move. ':fish20:'

All who have a Garmin GPS do you have a
Garmin Mapsource CD program for it.
I got the Bluewater for the Pacific Northwest.

I believe they have them for the Great lakes also.

Czar has more than that, that's the tip of the iceburg.  His whole boat is a tackle and gadget storage container.

I use a 25 foot tape measure in my flat bottom, talk about accuracy. But I seldom take it deeper than 60 inch's. lol

My brain is my GPS, I never sweat getting lost. Been doing the same fishing battle scene to long.

My Vortex Fishing Station has all I need and than some more.

I have the mapsource CD. I like it! h2o if fog came rolling in, I think you would be in a pickle! Put its a good idea to learn howto navigate with out one. I've learned well, from my grandpa.

NJBarraco, you are totally correct. Everyone who goes out on the water should be ready for anything including fog.
I've been out fishing the Pacific Coast and inside the strait when the ocean fog rolled in before I had Loran or GPS. Its thick and often you can't see 20 yards.
With ocean tides you can get pushed for miles.
With just a compus onboard you can figure out where the coast line is, but without GPS you don't know if you have drifted into a shipping lane.
Our coast and Puget Sound have aircraft carriers, subs, tankers, freighters, tugs & barges, and assorted other war ships always moving.
Small craft does not often show up on these big ships radar.
Electronics such as we have do make our fishing and pleasure boating much safer now-a-days.

GPS and compass are vital on big water. Here`s a couple pics of my bow and helm. I really like the RAM mount on the bow depthfinder. Makes it easy for any positioning.
