Anchor Bay Fishing in the Fog 5/23/10
« on: May 23, 2010, 07:52:42 pm »

Todd & I hit Anchor Bay this morning. The fog out there was insane so we decided to head to the east side of the bay to avoid getting hit by the bass boats fishing Selfridge. It was nice & quite on that side as there was only 1 other boat fish by us. We ended up boating 5 pike, a couple of walleye & a rocky on the east side then headed over to fish Selfridge from 1:00 until 3:00. Boats all around us were pulling in fish. We boated 20 SM, 9 LM, some rockies & a sheephead. Also had several gar taking swipes at our baits. After catching that many fish in only 2 hours by Selfridge & seeing people all over pulling in fish it made me wish we didn’t head over to the east side of the bay.

Everything caught on the east side of the bay was caught on rattle baits. On a side note I’m holding funeral services for my favorite rattle bait that I lost due to the line snapping from an unexpected backlash. Tubes took the majority of fish by Selfridge with a few on a grub or rattle bait.

Nice work, looks like water clarity picked up a bit from last few days that I was out. We only maaged a couple fo smallies, but then again, I had a 4 yearold bugging me every 2 seconds and the water was like chocolate milk over by 9 mile from all the drainage.

I thought nobody could catch a fish without using a cheap DCT jig with breaking hooks and that stupid hot wired worm which is useless because it stiffens the bait and takes the natural look away? Grin

And what is up with the report of the 5 pike? Cheesy I just read on another site that someone claims that you can only catch a few stray pike because all of the pressure that Musky put on them and now claim Musky are making the pike rare. If Pike are really that rare because of Musky, how could you have boated 5 in a single morning? Grin

The guy also suggested a spearing season to thin out the Musky, but He also stated before that Musky don't make good table fare. What kind of Sportsman would want to kill something just for the sake of killling it and wasting it? Does the guy really think there is a possibility of "Spearing and Release"? Before it was the perch & walleye that were all ate up by the musky? Now it's the Pike? Are declining catfish numbers going to be blamed on the Musky next? Huh? Huh?

I have a few blank large size Rattle Traps and a few blank rattling Fish Stalker bodies, and can paint them to your preference. if that is what you lost.

You seem to have boated more Walleye, then the reports from those trying to target them on a wanna-be Walleye site. And you don't need to have several different screen names in order to make it look like you have someone reply to you, either!  icon_salut

The rattle bait that I lost was a Rattlin Rapala in crawdad color that has been discontinued. I bought the lure over 15 years ago. I lost a #5 last year & lost the #7 yesterday.

Here's what it looks like:
