Topic: 11 yr old knows fishing laws better than adults (Read 746 times)

This was taken from the latest DNR weekly reports 8/24/2009 - 9/6/2009. The 11 yr old knows the law better than most adults. This young angler is well on his way to being a real sportsman.
COs Todd Szyska and Kris Kiel received a Report-All-Poaching (RAP) complaint from an 11 year old who was fishing at Metro Beach. The complainant witnessed a subject put an undersized northern pike in his bucket. The COs arrived on scene and found that the subject not only was in possession of a 13 inch northern pike, but he and his partner were also fishing without licenses. COs issued tickets to the subjects and will put the complainant in for a RAP reward when the case clears the court.

There were also several reports of people coming into the launches with undersized bass. Why are there so many adults getting tickets while an 11 yr old will be getting an award? Seems kinda backwards doesn't it?

Boom, we all make mistakes. I dont keep bass, but not everyone knows regulations. They should install stands with pamphlets on simple to underfstand size regulations and every fishinbg area. either that or signs, so people know. If they can spend 50K on obama recovery signs (a pop) they can put up some fish size guideline signs or something.

Doing that would be a complete waste of taxpayer money. When you buy a license they give you a guide book with the regs. in it.Too many people are just too damn lazy to read it & just assume what the regs are. That guide book doesn't cost them anything because it's paid for through advertising.

I thught it was the fisher persons responibility to know what the laws are and make sure they follow them? The guide comes free with the license. There really is no excuse.

This just grinds my gears - yes they give you a free copy of the regs with your license. There arnt that many rules that are confusing - size and # are the most easy to follow rules, there is NO excuse for not following them.
What fun is it to play the game if you dont follow the rules!!!!
I think they should make the penalties stiffer for folks that are nto following the rules - make it hurt. Lets face it for what it is a fishing license is a real value in this day and age. Also people need to have more respect for the fisheries and the fish themselves.

I think the fishing regs should be posted too. They also change every few years.
