Topic: Should tax dollars be used like this? (Read 798 times)

This aircraft is flying around the Pacific Northwest. It was all over our local news last night. Flys mainly between Alaska and here. Its a cool paint job. Some of teh Alaskian Airliners have paint jobs of Disney cartoons on then that fly to LA Airport.
With social security introuble, war expense, and the airlines get insured operating loans every few years from the fed gov't (our tax dollars) and then filling bankrucipty should we support spending like this for airline paint?

Most fishermen sit at home in the winter, thinking about fishing. Real fishermen go out and do it.

Sure I'll get to see it soon at one of the Northwest airports. Go to Alaska Airlines.com and you might be able to see a completed photo of it. The photo attached to the article is not the completed paint job. The whole completed job is something to see.
This is basicly a sports fishing and travel topic, I think, NJBarraco.
Beermaster, You say "its better than a $20,000 toilet seat and a $5,000 hammers they used during the reagan administration." The reasons for those price tags is the way they hid the spending for research & development of the stealth aircraft that have shot us ahead in the airpower race. Only way they keep funding secure and secret for BLACK OPS Top Secret Programs.

Our local new just had a good story on the flying fish. First the aircraft is a Boeing 737.
They are calling it the Salmon-Thirty-Salmon. LOL
The funds used to do the painting were generated and collected from fees on imports. These fees/funds are earmarked for programs that promote United States Goods.
Last time I check, Alaskian Fresh Salmon is a U.S. good.
Sounds and looks like a good promotion - does it not?

Bullhunter , The way I see it, Travel and Natural resources are Alaska's two main exports/products. Advertising their natural resources is a great idea. In addition, painting a vehicle/aircraft is a great way to raise awareness. We had our company vehicles wrapped with some cool advertising, and what do ya know. Everytime they are on the road, they generate business. 20-30 thousand people see our vehicle on daily basis. 10-15 will actually call and buy our products. And I was just razzing in regards to a 20k toilet seat.
