They got the motor removed today, and they called me to take photos for my insuranse claim. Aft main bearing seal was browish and was hard in spots. Going to be replaced. Aft main bearing is good ! Shift cable is rusted through. replacing. Detected a minor oil leak at the fuel pump gasket. That gasket also being replaced. Still don't know what it all will cost. Another boat owner told me yesterday what BOAT really stands for. Brake Out Another Thousand.

The insuranse coverage declined.
Said no damage to hull so I could have not hit anything.
Insuranse companies are inbusness to keep money not give it out. LOL

Sounds like an ignition issue - re-check all plugs, wires, distributor etc. Also, check compression on all 4 or 6, whichever you have. What year/size engine?

Beermaster, you might have something there.
I've talked with two other repair shops. They think something in the electrical system is heating up and breaking down when under a heaver load.
I can run the boat in the yard for over an hour and nothing happens. Put it in the water and full throttle it for 30 minutes and the RPM drops off and then surges.
I've been advised to put it in the water for another cruise and time it until failure. Have a portable tank and hose ready and connect to the fuel pump inline. Then try it again to make sure we don't have a tank problem or check vale problem. If problem remains turn the motor off for 20 minutes or so and let it cool.
Then turn it back on and giver the throttle again. I it runs fine for awhile then acts up again we have most likely an electrical issue.
Hope to do this in a few days.
I also sprayed the motor down with cleaner and rinised it off with hot water. Its so clean you could eat off it. I'll find that oil leak.
One marine mechanic said I should invest in a Pertronics Electronic Ignition system. Thats $400 plus bucks. I'm recently unemployed. Not going that route.
