Anyone know who I can bring a couple rods too, to get the tips fixed....I have one rod that I broke while steelheading....man my Buddies will never let me live that one down!!! LOL!!! And when I ordered my new rod and reel from Cabelas they sent me the wrong rod and it was broke, so I called them and they sent me out the right replacement and told me to keep the 9' one piece rod (bonus!!)....so I figured I would fix them both just so I have a couple spares....let me know!!!

It's so easy to replace the tip, heat some violin glue put on rod tip insert tip trim excess glue. It's so easy I do it when neccessary. Really it's so simple on most rods. Glue come's in a stick form and just heat it to melting point, waving the Bic lighter under it. Administer glue to tip and insert new rod tip. Make sure it fit's before glueing. Pay extra for better tips.
h2o<--use violin glue just use it.

Good Idea to practice on used old pole. Now when you take a tip off, wave the bic lighter under it paying great attention to NOT over heat it, as a helper pulls on the bad tip with needle nose pliers, while you pull the rod it's not a tug of war just a bit of pressure. Just don't overheat the blank tip. It comes right off. Get out of the wind to control the temperature better also. Heat the tip by waving the flame back and forth, don't apply the flame directly to the medal tip. Clean up excess glue on blank tip before putting new tip on. You can carefully use a razor blade but don't dig into the rod blank. Any questions? Please ask.
h2o<--says don't over heat it. And Violin glue's the way to go.

2 part epoxy works great as well. Just be sure to have a nice clean tip before installing, you can't have any splinter cracks or they will follow down the blank over time.

Don't use epoxy, Use violin glue. Epoxy make's it real hard to take the tip off next time when you need to replace it again.

The tip of both rods are totally broken off so if I fix them once I will never fix them again....I'll have to make a run to Wallys or DR in Belle River for some good quality tips....I don't think Crappy Tire would carry anything high end???

Something your over looking is Tips don't always break and take part of the blank with it see. The guide can crack, or the mounting can bend and the blanks not harmed, so use the violin glue because chance's are next time you need to replace it the blank will still be good and all that needs replacing is the tip.
h2o<--just knows lol

h2o is correct you will have problems with epoxy. If you can't find violin glue there is a stick glue that is heat activated for archery. It is used to glue the inserts and knocks on. Sounds like the same thing available at archery shops.

When I use to build river rods in BC we never had any luck with hot glue or those stick glues, nothing held up in for the whole year but epoxy but there was a trick. We use to put one layer of masking tape on the blank for the tip. Then sparingly used epoxy then finished in off with some finish just for looks.
Worked great, if for some reason we needed to remove the tip we just gently heated it up allowing the masking tape adhesive to pull off. Not sure how the climates play on equipment here. But the violin glue sounds like a good alternative.
