I grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania along the Delaware River. Cought my fair share of Bass, Trout, Shad, and many other types of fish from the Delaware River. We also had a pond on our farm that always produced nice bullheads. My Uncles old homestead had a nice lake on it also with lots of fine fishing. I grew up with a 22 rifle in one hand an a fishing pole in the other hand. Those were some great times. No worries, just fun.

Most fishermen sit at home in the winter, thinking about fishing. Real fishermen go out and do it.

No H2o, I started out with a 22 pump action. I do not remember who it was made by. I was my dads.
icefishermanmark, You still have time to start hunting. Don't you have a close friend you could hit the woods with?

Me and Ice talked about the issue on AIM once, his mom or dad is against guns. That kind of sucks, but once you move out it should be OK.

icefishermanmark, try hunting with a bow. It is a great sport and a real challange. I could talk pages on it, and post sheets of photos.
Archery season is usually first in most states. You mostly have nice weather. The game have not been chase, stalked, or shot at with rifles and shotguns. So the game animals are fairly relaxed.
During Archery hunting I have seen many more animals. Harvisted more and had better quality hunts.
Archery hunters are more for the quality hunt and do not like crouds as stealth and tactics are what its all about. Archery shots are only 10 to 50 yards. I once killed a cow elk at 60 yards. You almost always only get one shot, so you need to make it a great perfect shot. Your arrow must go through the ribs and lungs. So you need a side shot.
I was once hunting elk and deer in an area south of Mount Rainer National Park. I'd hunted it the previous year and saw lots of game and my buddy got two shots but missed. I was sneeking down this dirt logging road and it was full of elk and deer tracks. I was excited and expected to take an animal for sure that day, so I wasn't paying much attention to all the tracks. I was watching down the road and around in the woods. I noticed some movement and started a stalk it that direction. I went maybe 25 yards and stepped into a small clearing. My eyes fixed on another set of eyes looking at me. My mind very quickly processed the situatition and the hairs on my body stood up and my butt felt the pucker factor. Within ten (TEN) yards lay a big female cougar. She had killed a small deer and she had to young kittens. One was on the dead deer and the other was crawling around on her. I knew this was worse than surprizing a bear and cubs. I knew that what ever I did in the next few seconds would decide if I lived or died. I knew any quick movement would be taken as a threat and the cougar would be on me in a flash. I had an arrow out so if she jumped I figured I hold the arrow out and maybe I'd get lucky. I had a buck knife but it was the folding type so I'd be dead before I'd get it opened. I decided to maintain eye contact and do some back stepping and try not to show any fear. No Fear, I had all I could do to not crap in my shorts!
I back stepped to the road and then headed out of there but kept looking back. As I walked back out the road it was then that I notice the cougar tracks. I have no idea why that big cougar let me live.

Great story. That would be SCARY, but I bet when you look back at it you wouldn't change it.

Like I have always said:
Some of my greatest hunting trips is when we didn't harvest an animal.
One of my hunting buddies brought one of his friends with him that was new to hunting.
We all took of early to chase elk.
He sent his friend to sit on this ridge. The guy was real quiet and moving slow toward the ridge when he stepped out from behind this big old growth fir tree. He looked in the shadows and thought there was another hunter sitting and taking a crap. He said "EXCUSE ME".
When it stood up on its hind legs he realized it was a big black bear. Oh ****... It scared the **** out of him and he started back stepping. He fell over an old log and it rolled off another log and broke open a yellow jacket nest. The yellow jacket bees took flight all pissed off. The friend ran one way and the bear the other way.
Neither one wanted to fight with a swarm of mad yellow jackets.
I still laugh whenever we talk about that.
