Promoting GLF
« on: December 05, 2005, 12:14:57 am »

Every year, the Michigan DNR sponsors a "free fishing weekend". It is usually the first weekend in June. "Free fishing" means no license required. I think some great promotional exposure for GLF can be generated and have some fun while we are at it. I would like to know if any GLF members, local to SE Michigan or not, are interested in hosting an event that weekend.  A few calls can be made to local papers to inform them of this "human interest' story. Maybe even get a picture in the press ! We can locate a local group of disadvantaged children or perhaps some  assisted living adults from a local group home and take them out for a few hours of fishing. If we start just after the first of the year and really get into this, we may be able to get some poles, bait, temporary use of life jackets (should be mandatory wearing for GLF members when near the water and continous for the guests). We can require the group be delivered to the site (and driven back) with some supervisors from wherever they are from. I would suggest one of the METROPARKS, KENSINGTON in particular. I think transporting any of the selected group in personal vehicles of GLF members is something that absolutely not take place. We have to eliminate any legal ramifications. Some free passes can probably be obtained as I have a connection. We would require releases of course to absolve GLF of legal issues and provide protection. Maybe, just maybe, we can have a small GLF picnic like we have talked about previously. Any interest ? Please feel free to contact me or BEERMASTER with your thoughts on this. Thanks

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs.

Awesome idea. This will require some planning and perhaps, i should really plunk down a hundred bucks so we can finally form a non profit llc. That will reduce our personal liability to zilch.  Perhaps we can also write some local stations and newspapers seeking help in finding a small bus for a day and maybe have a media outlet sponsor the free weekend fishing excursion for kids.
