Wondering if it wouldnt be easier to monitor if all classified ads were in one location vs divided into areas. Also think the site could earn some income for its updates by getting a small donation from anything sold thru the forum

I have no say on how this stuff is done, but it would be very difficult to near impossible to make people pay a sum of their sale. Plus I don't think anyone has ever sold anything over this site? Has anyone? It's good thinking, and in the future it could work.

Most fishermen sit at home in the winter, thinking about fishing. Real fishermen go out and do it.

We have full fledged classifieds (front page icons) and they are free. And nobody uses them lol. We should do a major clean up of all forums. Delete all classified forums, leave fishing and hunting and general forum up for every state/province perhaps?
What do you guys think?
P.S. Our content management system includes an ability to put up an auction '> (Which we should use to raise a little dough for operations)
Doug, When we first came up with GLF we had no intent to make it a commercial venture and I would like to keep the spirit going. Maybe sell some non intrusive ads nto help us run the site but thats about it. But its a democracy here, whatever the mods think, goes. I just fascilitate the communications and technical aspect of things.

There could be some clean up, but that should be considered after a year or two. You never know what could happen if we get a few active people from new areas in here. Just my thoughts.

Yep, more state sections would be a benifit I think.
I sometimes feel left out being from the Pacific Northwest. I try to post my area stuff where ever I can make it fit the subject. Sometimes seem abit odd.
To Post or not to Post, that be the question. LOL

I agree we should do a little clean up. Maybe at the new year!!!! GLF gets a make over....lol. Each stat should get its own group. On the account we have four groups for Michigan.

It was only a thought, Like the spirit of the site but have seen the classifieds on other sites get abused, and was only wanting to prevent that

Rearranging is cool.Getting rid of pages..any content is not recommended to be seen in search engine rankings.I noticed Catch-n's pageviews take a sudden drop over on Alexa(Google tool) and found out, when we did some adding of forums and removal of forums, some of which had lots of content,it affected our rankings in seach engines. The ability for people finding GLF or CNT's on the net is somewhat lost in my opinion.I think it set us back quite a few pages.So...my suggestion.Archive them.Don't delete old posts. Also,I think not answering members posts also affects rankings.I've been doing alot of reading into this. But hey...I really have no say what you guys decide or do here.I think you have a great bunch of guys here. And really friendly.Rendo...Glad to see you have migrated here!

If you look at the bottom of the mainpage you see this:
All greatlakesforum.com posts in text only format For search engine compatibility. Please d i s r e g a r d.
Thats a hack making posts look like html pages. Works pretty well for google.
