Folks, as some of you may know, we will be starting a small publication designed to educate fello anglers, hunters, as well as share our experiences. GLF is desperately looking for writers, capable of writing small editorials. These will be made available online, and in our future publication "Great Lakes Outdoors". We are also looking for someone who can help compile, edit and screen these articles - essentially trying to form a production team.
Please contact Beermaster or H2o with your ideas, article/editorial proposals etc. I am sure everyone on here is capable of writing just one thing, but between all of us, it will add up to a publication. Eventually, this publication will be offered free to our members, and distributed in local tackle/hunting/boating shops. Folks will also have an option of mail delivery, with a paid subscription, proceeds from which will be used to male GLF better as well as organize and host GLF events promoting Great Lakes fishing, hunting and outdoors.
Now is your chance to get on board,
Please contact us soon!

Hello Mr. Collins,
We have never really got the printed publication off the ground, so we opted out for just writing articles and publishing them here on GLF.
My idea was to basically create a newsletter type of a publication, available in pdf format. From there, our members can run off xerox copies and leave them at local bait shops etc. In the long run, I am sure such activities could be advertiser supported. In addition we can easily distribute this publication via email and downloads.
We have similar site in minnesotta, catchn.com who would probably jump onboard for such publication. Perhaps, if you and your association are interested you can contribute too. We could also ring the DNR of relevant states and see if they would want to use us for publishing their information.
Essentially, what's needed is someone to be incharge of the publication who can serve as a liason between all parties involved. It would require alot of devotion with very little financial reward if any (at least in the beginning).
There are no good magazines or papers dedicated to sports and outdoor recreation in the midwest area that I know of. We have a major opportunity to fill this gap.
In addition some states such as MI have grants available for these kind of activities. I have a friend who is a VERY good grant writer who would be willing to assist us on this matter as well as function as a spokes person. He is a former president of Michigan Teachers Union, a local mayor and an experience politician. I also have a number of connections in Michigan legislature who could help us pursue the grants , at least here, in my state.
What's your opinion on this?
P.S. My name is Andrew and my number is 586-206-3503 if you want to give me a ring to discuss this.

I am really hoping to apply for one of the DNR grants to get this going. That woudl give us funding to actually publish and distribute it, not just drool over the idea.
Any grant writers or folks with grant acquisition experience here? I mean seriously, what we are trying to do here with the site and or publication could easily fall within grant coverage of Outreach and Education Grants category, Recreational Improvement Grant, Marine Safety Grant, Fisheries Development Grant ETC ETC... Can someone put me in touch with the right folks?

I could help out with a good ice fishing article. How in depth are we looking? Do we want the basics, or quite advanced content?

Most fishermen sit at home in the winter, thinking about fishing. Real fishermen go out and do it.

Check out the article I wrote Mark if you need an example. The more detail the better. It's on the On. page.

Beermaster and Castmaster. I would be glad to write an article. I will be laid upfor the next couple weeks due to a surgery so I will have plenty of time. Do you want a specific area??? Like "Fishing Walleyes On Little Bay De Noc"..."Perch fishing on Lake St.Clair" or "Slaming Bass on Lakeville Lake". Or are you looking for a special interest story like "Taking a a Down Syndrome child fishing" Or "The Joys of Fishing" Please send me a Message and let me know.

Paul anything local would be grand. Saint Clair, Erie, Rivers, Huron would work. What ever you want and thanks.
