I'm sittin here sick today, sore throat and 101 degree fever, and I thought that you all should know this.
For those of you who hunt, you spend alot of time in the woods. In these woods lurks a creature so small that you can barely see it, but can change your life forever. It'a deer tic. They cause lyme disease, and more and more cases of lyme disease are reported in Michigan each year.
6 years ago, school got out and my dad and I weren't feeling good. After about a week, I felt better, but my dad was still feeling lousy. He went to doctors all summer long, and they told him you have this or you have that, but whatever they did to treat it, nothing worked.
My mom's friend's son had lyme disease and she encouraged my dad to get tested. In August the tests came back positive. The only problem is, there is only one doctor in the state of Michigan who treats lyme disease, Dr. Michael Ledtke, and he had a 9 month waiting list at the time. As the fall got colder, my dad got sicker. December came, and he was off of work. My grandpa came up from Florida, to help out and take my dad to his appointments. After about 7 months, he finally got in to see Dr. Ledtke.
About April, he began to get better and started working part time again, and my grandpa went home. For the next 4 years the lyme disease bothered him, but never enough to stop him from working. Just this past summer, it came back and he's been out of work since August. The disease stays with you for 25-30 years and can make your life a living hell. A tic bite looks like a bullseye. If you find the mark, and get treated soon enough, it's possible not to even get the disease.
Be aware of tics. Tuck your pants into your socks, wear gloves, and wear long sleeves. The less exposed skin you have, the less chance you have of getting bit.

Most fishermen sit at home in the winter, thinking about fishing. Real fishermen go out and do it.

Thanks for that reminder, and for the family story that went with it. Very sorry to hear about your Dad and his condition. I said a prayer for him.
Hope you get better soon yourself.

May you be in heaven a half hour before the devil knows you are dead.
