Since the high winds chased us off the lake my son asked if we could fish fromshore at the Backus Creek damn. We manged a a couple of hammer handles (that place is loaded with them) a crappie & a LM all caught below the small damn. We also seen a big doe on our way out.
With all these small walleye that I've been catching in Houghton Lake the last 2 times up there I'm thinking the next 1 to 2 years should be really good for walleye when those small ones grow up.
I didn't fish on Sunday morning because I decided to sleep in before I headed home.On the way home I kept contemplating whether or not if I should give SheepHeadHunter a call to hit the DR for some walleye. After I pulled up to my house I said f@%K it! & gave Todd a call.
We got on the water about 6:00 PM & were off at 8:45 PM. SheepHeadHunter managed to bag his first sheephead of the year so he's happy because now he doesn't have to change his name to RockBassSlayer.
We manged some dink SM, a few small sheephead, snagged a couple of gobies, & had some throwback on the walleyes & 1 keeper. We fished our usual spot on the river. After 5 years my camera is either taking a crap on me or the card is bad.
Typical size Houghton Lake walleye caught this weekend.

Typical hammer handles caught.

I'm NOT sorry to say this snagged gobie didn'tmake it.

SheepHeadHunter's first sheephead of the year.

The lone keeper on the DR (22")

BTW, my son called to tell me that he drove his bike down to the end of the road from my -in-law's cottage & caught a small pike in the canal. My father-in-law (who doesn't fish) had to un-hook it for him.
