My Almost 50" Musky Report
« on: September 19, 2008, 05:22:24 pm »

Shortly after you guys (Greg, Guy, & Mr. B) left the area where we were catching pike I headed over to the other side of Brunner Island (along the channel). I went to a spot that I have seen at least 2 different musky (50"+ & a mid 30") on 3 of the last 5 trips over there.

She came charging in on my black bucktail & once I seen her flare her gills I knew she was going to take my lure. It was a Chinese fire drill on my boat. She was going from one side to the other & getting me all wet in the process.  Grin I had to pull up my trolling motor to keep her from wrapping up in it. I had her at boat side 4 different times but then she would take off splashing me.   Tongue I knew I would have to wear her down to have any chance of landing her without a suitable net. Dummy me thought that I should take a picture of her in the water just in case I lose her, well in the process of reaching for my camera she got off. DOH! She just sat there about 10 feet from the boat on top for about 4 or 5 seconds then slowly swam off. I almost jumped in after her.  Grin

After losing the big girl I made another drift through & had a mid 30" ski hit my bucktail right after I had ripped it free from some weeds. She even made a second attempt at it even though it had weeds on it. She even hung around for a minute or so next to the boat but took off before I could finish clean the weeds off my bucktail.

When I first got out there I did have a small ski (just under 30") follow in my fouled bucktail & I had him chasing it on the figure 8 but half way through the 2nd figure 8 he swam off. Then I moved over near you guys in Bouvier & landed a 26" pike on the first cast.

All the action (what little there was) came on my black bucktail, which is now beat up pretty bad.  Angry

I made it back to the dock at 1:30  because my back was hurting too much from the pounding I took. I need a bigger boat.  Wink

Hey, Zib, we tried to dump him off on ya. laughing6 but ya wouldn`t take him. After seeing your boat motoring, you have to get her trimmed out properly. Tilt that 25 horse down for a trimed out ride. That will help ya with your bumpy ride. Good job on the `ski. I wish we would have stuck around to help ya net the beast. At least you had the pleasure of seeing the big girl and you know where she resides now too. Get her next time. Great seeing you, buddy.

Guy, I have a hydrofoil that I bought for the motor but haven't put in on yet. One of these days I'll get around to it.  Grin When I have someone in the front I don't have worry about triming her out.  Grin
