Anyone fish stoney creek??

My buddies are after me to go out there with them. We just rent a row baot and I have an electric trolling motor. Its enough for Kennisington, but I am not sure about large bodies of water. I went to the Stoney Creek web site and there was not uch to tell me how big the water is.

Also any tips on where to catch Walleyes would be greatly appreciated  Grin.

I've never fished Stoney but have been wanting to. It's smaller than Kent Lake at less than 500 acres. Here's a map of the lake from the DNR website: http://www.dnr.state.mi.us/SPATIALDATALIBRARY/PDF_MAPS/INLAND_LAKE_MAPS/MACOMB/STONY_CREEK_IMPOUNDMENT.PDF

If I was to fish there for walleye I would start by the dam on the NE side of the lake. If there's current there then look for any type of current break. You'll probably catch some catfish there as well. The underwater gravel point off the south point from Baypoint beach looks like a good place as well as the underwater gravel point off the SW side of the beach that's north of the access site. I'm sure the lake bottom has changed since that map was made. Any spot that goes from the hard gravel bottom to a soft mud bottom should hold walleye as well.

Good luck. Let us know how you did.

I wish you luck but myself would not fish it. Sure it holds some fish but most reports are just a few caught.Dinks mostly. Besides eyes are early morning late evening fish and your out of there then. Go to Lake Orion.

I would like to fish Orion but the only way I can select lakes right now is if they have a boat rental  Sad

Kent was some good fishing for me this year - lots of bass (SM and LM), walleye, and some big pike (several in the 35-39" range this year), unfortunatly when the college kids go back to school they shut down the boat rental.

SO if anyone knows of any lakes in SE MI that rent boats and are good fishing I would love to know, right now the only places I know of are metro parks and I like fishing them but would LOVE to try new water.

Thanks for comments so far.

Give Pontiac Lake Marina a call. I think they rent boats or used to. Phone: (248) 666-9873 Great bass fishing there as well as some decent pike fishing & ok walleye.

Also give Mac's Marina on Whitmore Lake a call. Phone: (734) 449-4706 Plenty of bass in there but on the small side.

What about Lake Saint Clair?  Hit Stoney you might do better than most.

What do you plan to fish for? If you want some winter steelhead you are better off fishing the Huron River.

I am just planning on my summer fishing.  I have heard there is decent fishing in Stony - but have never been there.  I like to wade and river fish for anything.

I don't know about decent. Good thing is a 10 mph speed limit. Closes before dark. If your into shore fishing Sylvan Glen Park west off Rochester a few blocks North of Long Lake in Troy offers up some good fishing. A smaller pond just south of the Golf Course. Many species there. If more info is needed let me know.

Hey H20 - What type of fish are in the pond.  I have golfed there and sent a few into that body of water.  Let me know.  Thanks, JW

Your normal pans, perch, croppie, sunnies, gills, trout, bass, carp and you never know what you'll get as many put there aquarium fish in it. Got a solid gold coy about 3lbs. Fish it early as weeds hinder in summer. But still fishable. Around the island works with a deep hole just on the east side of it. Cast bobbers and live bait. Lures work to. Just a easy pond. Ice fishing can be good. They use to hold derby's there and planted trout.

You never know what you'll find in inland lakes or ponds. You never know what types of fish are dropped in by birds flying over.
