Went Fishing Today
« on: April 05, 2005, 04:45:02 pm »

I tried fishingfor pike today.  I fished the shallows for a while but neither caught nor saw any pike.  The carp were up there sunnin themselves.  I figured the weededges may hold some fish so I fished some weededges and caght 3 largemouths.  2 on a black and gold smithwick, and 1 on a clown wild shiner.  I had a few pike follow but no hits.  I had about a 4lb bass follow to the boat but no hit.  I did pretty well for 2 hours.

I need to get that mepps first.  The wind didn't help me at all today either.  It's tough to control a 12 footer with a hand controlled motor.  Oh well.  Beermaster I know exactly what you mean by up to neck in school work.  These next 2 weeks are gonna be rough.  I probably don't have as much as you, but it still sucks.  Now I'm off to right a 4 page paper in 40 minutes for AP U.S. History.

About that.... Yeah I forogt the anchor and my oars.  But I don't like the anchor.  I like to move around and try different things.  At least it didn't hold me back '<img'>   Will pike be hanging around the carp this time of year?

Tell me about the lake your on. Boy if you hit fish that's telling you they are there in front of you, Anchor and pick the area. Remember 10% of the lake holds the fish. Just give it a try this time of year. When I find the fish I anchor all the time. Than toss out a marker, a marker could be a sock, rock, pop bottle tied with 20lb. test. When your anchored you can control the retrieve better to. Alot slower keeping the bait in the strike zone.

Well I caught all three fish in three totally different parts of the lake so anchring wasn't a good idea.  I have a few spots picked out now.  I saw and heard a few fish breaking the surface.  These wouldn't be bass would they?

Of course you will do what you want. If it was me and I caught that fish I would anchor and see if there are more there that's all I'm saying. Work the area anchored for 10 min. and see what happens. than toss the marker out and work both sides of the marker. divide the area into sections.Hey that's what I do sometimes. It works.

I guess I could try it.  I was fishing a bay area and worked it for about 45 minutes had a few follows, but had to get goin due to homework overload.  I would have stayed longer and brought them out from hiding if I had time.  I guess I should listen to the man with alot more experience than I have.  I've never tried it so it's worth a shot.  By the way the Huron River goes in and out of my lake and I was just wondering if fish hang around the rivers this time of the year?
