I'm heading up to Great Slave Lake in a couple of weeks, and I was wondering if someone on this site could fill me in with any tips on locating the bigger lake trout. I've spent hours going over old In-Fisherman and F&S mags, and the info is slim to none. I imagine the Great Lake Macks would have some of the same habits as the ones farther north, although the ones up there probably stay shallower. I know that lakers tend to school with their same size, but do the big ones (over 30 pounds) trail under the smaller fish schools or do they school with other big ones? Are big ones isolated or mixed in with smaller ones? Thanks for the help, if anyone can fill me in. If you know of any other habits of the larger fish I'd appreciate your input.
